Roses are red...

At work, we've all gone a bit felting mad! It all started because I found a source of the most exquisite, 100% Nepalese wool felt. Coloured sliver, felting needles and foams and the whole regalia soon followed.
Anyway, last night at our weekly Wednesday craft group after my sewing machine decided not to play nicely with the project I intended to work on, I decided to have a play, and made a red rose for my hair out of the wool felt instead.
It is cut and shaped by hand, and came together quite quickly. No felting required in the end, but the soft, thick felt moulds beautifully into shape.

I love it! :) And I still have enough red felt left over to make another one, and this time take some photos of the process, and even make a pattern!
(Note: seeing my grey hair in a photo is quite the challenge! I am torn between colouring it out and sticking to my "grow old gracefully" stance. What to do?! Is anyone else in this bind?)

  1. Cool flower. Will it be felt hats next?
As for your 'wisdom highlights' personally I would keep them.
But its up to you and what you feel. As once you start dying your hair, you have to keep going.

  2. Never felt hats - I dislike them far too much to spend time making one! But I DO love the term "wisdom highlights", it outs my grey into a much nicer context! :)

    1. Grey/white hair is a sign of wisdom. You get wisdom teeth, why not wisdom highlights. People spend money lightening strips of hair and you are getting it naturally.

  3. I'm already finding white hairs on MY head, MrsC, and you deserve them much more than me, so I'd second letting them grow. :-)

  6. Dear Mrs. C.,

Now there's a handsome rose on a handsome head. Please, do tell how you did it because it's ducky!

    Very best,

    Natalie

  7. I love the felt rose and am looking forward to pics on how to make one myself. Your hair looks great - I think it is the misfortune of women that we sweat the small stuff...You look great, you're happy and healthy, what else matters?

  8. Thank you all for your lovely comment,s I WILL make another rose and get some instructions happening. And I will leave my hair, which is what I really want to do, and just occasionally need to be reminded of that! Even my gorgeous french hairdresser is all for me leaving it grey, he thinks all the women in Wellington are mad for wanting to be blonde!

  9. What a beautiful bold rose! :) And I agree, definitely nothing wrong with a bit of grey. My mother's hair is completely grey and I think it looks graceful :)

  10. Who will even notice the grey when you are sporting such a beautiful rose!! I'm not brave enough to reveal all the grey yet. Just the crazy front streak. But I am keeping an eye on the roots. The minute they go silver I'm all up for it. Though I might consider an all over scarlet red before then. So tempting to grow old disgracefully! Looking forward to the tute, then I can have a beautiful 'dstraction' too! ;-)
