Upskilling in Isolation

One of the principles of adult learning so that adults will easily learn skills that they NEED. Well, up until now I've not needed to understand how to make videos, but now I do.
And Zoom meetings
And my Phone camera
The works!
Terrifying reality!
Like many other workers who do white collar jobs and are working from home, I'm on Zoom several hours a day. Also for social reasons I confess. This is me on my laptop video looking stern (glasses) and trying to put something behind me to quieten the noise of all my sewing and stage supplies on shelves. I don't think my jerry-rigged curtain is wide enough!
Anyone else rapidly acquiring new skills?
Here's my latest video attempt btw. For anyone who wears false eyelashes. Tom you might find it useful. Eyelashes on sculptures?

  1. Dear Mrs. C.,
Well, that was odd. I wrote a comment and it appeared not to go through. Will try again at the risk of boring you.
How are you feeling about Zoom meetings these days? Do you have the backgrounds down pat by this point? I always make sure whatever's behind me is relatively put together, but sharing a working space with two almost teenagers, it can be a bit of a struggle. Their stuff spreads out!
May you remain safe and well, and it makes me so happy that New Zealand to date has controlled the virus so well: it must give you such a sense of relief.
    Very best,
    Natalie in KY USA

    1. Hello!! i just saw that you'd posted a comment thank you Natalie! I find Zoom so-so. Just sitting round socialising I'm not that in love, but the other night I did a big music quiz with breakouts for teams and it was fabulous, because we were doing things!!!
I've had no luck with backgrounds, they just take over my pasty skin tone. I don't mind the world seeing my sewing space shelves, though.
Yes we are so blessed here with incredibly compassionate and intelligent leadership. It is much needed after nine years of pandering to rich people and letting the infrastructure of the country fall into pieces. A real blessing.

  2. I hope you are still going well, and congratulations New Zealand for curving not only the eyelashes, but also the curve so well (arr-arrr). Clearly becoming everybody´s new favourite country. Over here, close to Old Zeeland, the curve is bent down, cafés are opening up and the office remains closed (best of all worlds). My messy book and storage cases behind me are known around the world by now, enabling me to use it as an excuse to turn my video (and rest my polite
work face into my normal resting bitch face !!) All the best!

    1. Hello! I am sorry I missed this, I don't think I'm getting comment notifications any more, silly Blogger. Yes, life here is back to some kind of weird, order sealed normal, with more people out of work apparently an everyone spending their money in local businesses, which is nice for us! I am very proud to be a Kiwi right now :) Good that cafes are open - we venture out in "Level 2" for brunches and sat a long way from toehrs and got waited on and I loved it, I wish it was an economically sustainable model for cafes!
