Random Make Friday

There are so many cool recurring posts on blogs - I thought I would make one up too...
Welcome to Random Make Friday, from Sent from my iRon.

Today's Random Make is a lampshade I made last week. I made the shade up in white calico, slathered it in Mod Podge, smoothed the pretty bird tissue over it, and slathered more Mod Podge over the top.
Tada!!
Here is the tissue in its natural, tissuey habitat. The Mod Podging brought the colours out even more.
I am in love. I am also in love with the black toile du jouy beside it and may have to try it as well!
(Please ignore the strange "Chianti Bottle woven with Rex Lace by a Hippy in the 70's" lamp base. )

  1. Cute!! I am always unsure about lampshades and had read too many instructions that refer to flame retardant this and that, so haven't ever embraced them....but I could be tempted by yours!!

    1. Never embrace a hot lampshade! LOL! Seriously, I think it's because the frames that touch the bulb, like the ones with two loops, or the American style ones that sit over the bulb, make the wire hot. We find that with the ones that bear their shape on a ring under the bulb, it is never a problem. I do wonder though if cone shaped lamps gets hotter, as the sides sort of angle over the rising heat? Hmm.

  3. Oooooh I need to come to one of your lampshade classes, I too am in love with the birds toile du jouy! Can you hang the lampshapes from the ceiling or are they strictly for those with a base?

    1. Absolutely, Juliet! The only thing you need to decide if your fabric has a one directional pattern, is what kind of shade it will be, ceiling or stand. Then you apply the fabric the right way up for that use. easy!
